Amazing Miss Deb (Debbie)
Debbie was born in Darwin, NT in 1974, and at that time not everybody knew she was amazing. Debbie learnt to ride a unicycle at age 8 and began publicly performing her skills at age 12.

- began a Bachelor of Education (2006) and stopped to have two children (2006 & 2008);
- studied Auslan (2009);
- learnt an incredible amount about children and about herself whilst being predominantly a stay at home mum (2006-2018);
- completed a comprehensive 8 month course on Embodying Non-Violent Communication/Compassionate Communication (2016);
- designed and debuted the “Amazing Health Show” after collaborating with a number of local dentists and dietitians (2018);
and re-branded her business to “Amazing Miss Deb” and re-entered the workforce with updated circus programs that now help achieve curriculum requirements in health, physical education, maths and science from pre-school to middle school (2019).
Miss Deb now mostly delivers circus workshops for at risk youth in remote communities and for special needs youth at local Darwin Schools.
Amazing Miss Deb pioneered a new way to engage and educate youth in 2021 with the founding of her new business “Amazing XR” . Miss Deb engages youth (and adults) with immersive entertaining and educational Virtual Reality Programs that are ideal for fun, fitness, team building, education and wellbeing. (2021-2025)
Debbie has amazing skills that include solo trapeze; tightrope-walking; slack rope; roller board; juggling; diabolo; tricky sticks; poi; yo-yo, flag dance; hula dance; balloon modelling; unicycling; minibike riding; and ultimate wheel riding. Even with all of these skills, it’s easy to see that Amazing Miss Deb’s strongest “super power” by far is being able to connect well with youth. Debbie shows students (and teachers alike), that
Amazing Miss Deb uses her circus skills, knowledge and experience to help others become aware of, and identify their own special super powers. Miss Deb explains how true super powers come from within and are not always obvious. She encourages students and teachers to consider not “what” they are good at, but rather, “why” they good at particular things. Students and teachers practice observing and identifying super powers (such as “patience”, “perseverance”, “kindness”, “consideration”, “empathy” and “resilience”), in themselves and in each other.
Amazing Miss Deb’s circus activities are specifically designed to develop physical, social and emotional skills. Workshops improve students self-confidence, promote cooperation, and enhance coordination and motor skills (with many of the activities including ‘crossing the midline’ movements). Workshops help develop kinaesthetic awareness, balance, directional awareness, strengthen core body muscles, and are fantastic as pre-writing activities. Ultimately, circus in schools provides students with new and healthy activities that will develop a wide range of their skills whilst they participate in an enjoyable physical activities.
Debbie encourages students/teachers to learn the techniques of making circus equipment (from reusable household materials), by providing instructional texts and demonstrations.
Circus activities appeal to a wide audience of varying physical and mental abilities with the only prerequisite to participate being enthusiasm. Debbie does not tolerate an “I can’t” attitude and helps students develop self-respect and a growth mindset with an “I’m still learning” approach to new and challenging tasks in a safe and encouraging environment.
Amazing Miss Deb’s circus workshop programs have been implemented in dozens of schools with overwhelming success, receiving endorsement from many within the education department.
Amazing Miss Deb now predominantly works in schools to help students achieve outcomes across different strands of the curriculum by delivering programs to students from pre-school to middle school.
